“Call Me Anya”

I’m pleased to announce that several stories from my book, Squint: Re-visioning the Second Half of Life, are featured in the most recent issue of the Penn Gazette. My grandmother and I had a challenging relationship. When she attempted suicide at 92, I asked myself, why shouldn’t a 92 year old be able to decide when enough is enough? As years went by, I began to see her as brave, stubborn and determined, and realized that I am a lot like her. That’s why, when I became a grandmother and they asked me what I wanted to be called, I said, “Call me Anya.” I hope you like it.
